Tonight will see Marvel’s Agent Carter ending her second season with yet another note of uncertainty, given ominous ratings and another ABC series for star Hayley Atwell. And while Season 3 remains a question, Atwell assures that ABC would find space for her to do both series.

Per Atwell’s own admission, Agent Carter fans might not learn the fate of Peggy’s serial adventures until the ABC upfront presentations in May, though a conversation with IGN confirmed ABC’s intent to feature the Captain America star in both Carter and Atwell’s new pilot Conviction simultaneously, if needed.

ABC has assured me that it would be actually possible, if both shows get picked up, for me to do both. So by saying yes to the pilot of Conviction does not automatically say that that’s it for Peggy and Jarvis at all. It just means that they had a show that they liked me to do and there is a possibility to do both at some point.

And while Season 2 is said to end with enough cliffhanger to pick up in a third season, Atwell tells The Hollywood Reporter that future Agent Carter could well pick up with Peggy in another age of her long, Marvel-ous life:

There’s a balance with how it ends. There’s enough of a cliffhanger to suggest that that’s where we’ll go forward if the show gets picked up again. But things are nicely wrapped up in a way that I think the audience will find very satisfying. The audience won’t feel frustrated. If anything, they’ll come away satisfied but also curious as to what happens beyond, because thanks to all the Marvel films she has appeared in, we know that Peggy’s life goes on and she lives quite an extraordinary life and a long life. So there’s always room to revisit her in different ways, different decades and different ages.

In the meantime, Season 2 will air its “Hollywood Ending” finale later on tonight, with news of future Agent Carter likely to follow thereafter, and into the spring.
