You know Spider-Man is one of the world’s coolest comic-book superheroes. But did you know that one of his coolest moves in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is inspired by one of the world’s first movie stars? It’s true; the moment early in the film when Spidey grabs onto a police wagon as it speeds by in the middle of a chase is an homage to a similar moment in a classic silent comedy by Buster Keaton. Amazing Spider-Man was the first Spidey film that didn’t feature Mary Jane as Peter Parker’s love interest. Instead, the movie featured Gwen Stacy, another classic Spider-Man character, played by Emma Stone. In 2011, Paul Giamatti appeared on Conan O’Brien’s talk show saying how he’d love to play a villain in a Spider-Man movie, particularly Rhino. Three years later, he got his wish, when Marc Webb cast him as Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
