‘La La Land’ Director Damien Chazelle Sets Musical Series ‘The Eddy’ for Netflix
If you thought La La Land director Damien Chazelle was obsessed with Paris before, wait until Netflix pays him to make a show there. Months after we first learned Chazelle was developing contemporary musical drama The Eddy, Netflix has officially added the Oscar-winner to its growing stable.
Per the network’s announcement, Chazelle will executive produce the series and direct two of its episodes, as written by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne. Netflix’s The Eddy is an eight-episode musical drama series shot in France, featuring dialogue in French, English and Arabic, with original music from Grammy-winner Glen Ballard. The full synopsis reads:
The Eddy is a musical drama set in contemporary multi-cultural Paris revolving around a club, its owner, the house band, and the chaotic city that surrounds them.
Said Netflix of the acquisition:
From the intense, complex relationship between a jazz drummer and his instructor in Whiplash to his dazzling duo of lovelorn Los Angelenos in La La Land, Damien’s work is emotional and electrifying. His projects have a rhythm all their own, and we’re incredibly excited for him, Jack, Glen, Alan and the production team to bring their vision for The Eddy to Netflix. We couldn’t be happier that he will be shooting The Eddy in France and that we will bring this bold, global and multilingual series to our members around the world.
