‘The Flash’ Season 2 Adds Michael Ironside as Captain Cold Sr.

The Flash has always followed its predecessor in casting with a nod to DC history, and Season 2 will see the mother of all DC baddies becoming the father of another. Darkseid himself, Michael Ironside will menace The Flash Season 2, not Barry Allen necessarily, but instead his own son, Captain Cold.

The Hollywood Reporter relays that the iconic Superman and Justice League voice will show up in person for the second season’s third hour “Family of Rogues,” playing the estranged and abusive father of Leonard Snart / Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and sister Lisa, AKA Golden Glider (Peyton List). According to the report, Ironside’s Lewis is seen to be a “cold-blooded, ruthless career criminal. Recently released from prison, he returns to Central City with a plan that will endanger both of his children.”

Miller’s Captain Cold certainly won the lion’s share of rogue focus last season, with an understandable increase to precede the character’s regular role in 2016's Legends of Tomorrow spinoff. Also worth noting is that Total Recall and Starship Troopers star Ironside also previously guest starred on Smallville, playing the role of Lois Lane’s father.

Elsewhere, we know of The Flash Season 2 that The Messengers alum Shantel VanSanten will guest as DC character and Barry’s new love interest Patty Spivot, joining Masters of Sex alum Teddy Sears as Golden Age speedster Jay Garrick and Season 2 big bad Zoom. We’ll also meet fellow Flash Wally West, and see the returns of Gorilla Grodd, and likely others.
