‘Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington Promises Season 7 CGI Upgrade
Considering the scale by which Game of Thrones increases each year (remember when they had to skip a battle in Season 1?), something had to give by the time we reached Season 7. That turned out to lower production to seven episodes at a later timetable, but star Kit Harington promises the money was well-spent on a “much bigger” scale of production.
Speaking with The Huffington Post, The once and future Jon Snow (Or is that Stark? Targaryen?) kept predictably tight-lipped on any major plot points, but nonetheless promised that Season 7 would reach a new scale of filmmaking and CGI usage. After all, what else were they going to do with those three episodes’ worth of free time?
They spent an increasing amount of money on less episodes, so it’s gonna be much bigger in scale, the CGI. We’re trying new things, experimenting with new camera techniques. I think we’re trying to break boundaries and push past boundaries in these final two seasons.
In particular, Harington noted that the narrow focus afforded more action, scenes and meetings for the existing characters, rather than adding any new ones. “And there are lots of people who cross paths,” he claimed. “And that’s something I think the audience has been waiting for for a long time.”
Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, now set for a July 16 premiere, a list of directors for the year has been announced along with rumors of some major set pieces and battles. Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent gave us surprising details of his “significant” role, while several notable returns have likely been revealed, along with an unexpected MLB cameo, and one recast.
We’ll hear more of Game of Thrones Season 7 in the coming week, but what major CGI uses should we expect?
