If Game of Thrones Season 6 made one notable course-correction, it might have been the sideline of Dorne stories after their meandering focus in Season 5. Still, Ellaria Sand and the Sand Snakes will be backing Daenerys in Season 7, and they may yet end up in a surprising role.

You’re warned of Game of Thrones Season 7 spoilers from here on out, but however mercifully Season 6 kept us away from Dorne, it’d be hard do overlook the characters’ presence among Daenerys’ new army. And yet, Watchers on the Wall (h/t UPROXX) has seen minimal set appearances from actors Indira Varma, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Jessica Henwick, though the former two have at least resurfaced in Cáceres, Spain.

Granted, Castle-Hughes has taken on other work like Showtime’s Roadies, while Henwick has both Iron Fist and The Defenders in recent months, WotW has a thorough, and fantastically spoiler-y take on the Sand Snakes in Season 7:

A few months ago, Watchers on the Wall exclusively reported Euron would pledge his forces to Cersei and attack Daenerys’ Westerosi fleets, kidnapping one of his Greyjoy niblings and killing at least one of the Sand Snakes. If we connect the dots, Euron’s success means he may return victorious to the capital and flaunt his booty and captives in a big parade… […]

If this mix of suspicions and spoilers pans out, it would mean Obara and/or Nymeria are the Sand Snakes who die during the sea battle, while Ellaria and Tyene survive… Only to be kidnapped, paraded through the streets of King’s Landing, and meet what I can only imagine is an even worst fate at the hands of Cersei and Euron. Together, these two like-minded mad monarchs could think up truly perverse tortures and executions.

Naturally, the last thing Game of Thrones needs is another round of extended torture scenes, but those hoping the Sand Snakes get wiped off the board may finally have gotten their wish. Then again, it’s Game of Thrones, so everyone dies a horrible death eventually.

Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, a list of directors for the year has been announced, along with rumors of some major set pieces and battles, while at least a portion of filming will take place in Iceland. Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent has been confirmed for a “significant” role, along with UFC star Conor McGregor, while several notable returns have likely been revealed.

Game of Thrones Season 7 won’t arrive until summer 2017, but what other big upsets might we see?
