‘Game of Thrones’ Meets Tears for Fears in Epic Season 7 Trailer Mashup
Yesterday brought the very first teaser for Game of Thrones Season 7, which was especially exciting after HBO forced us to watch a block of ice melt for an hour. It featured Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), and Cersei (Lena Headey) making their way towards their respective thrones. It was an awesome little tease, but could it have been better?
Sure, the teaser’s slowed-down version of James’ “Sit Down” is a fine song and echoes the ominous tone of what’s bound to be a thrilling season. But why pick that song when a classic ‘80s tune was practically written for Game of Thrones? We’re talking about Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” of course. Was there ever a song that spelled out the governing desires of power-hungry tyrants, Breakers of Chains, or former Lord Commanders than the 1985 hit? Nope. We re-imagined Game of Thrones as an ‘80s sitcom soundtracked to the song. Because let’s be honest, the HBO show is going to brutally axe a bunch of Game of Thrones characters this season. We might as well have fun while we still can.
Game of Thrones Season 7, which debuts on HBO on July 16, will be full of some major set pieces and battles, airplane-sized dragons, and has a handful of notable returns. While we still don’t know a ton of details, Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent recently gave us the scoop on his mysterious character.
