‘Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Denies Season 8 Filming Multiple Endings
We weren’t terribly surprised when Game of Thrones opted to film multiple endings for its final season, given the ubiquity of leaks. Still, they’ve claimed a few misdirects before, and star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau cautions we’d be “really stupid” to fall for that.
Granted, Thrones stars are notoriously unreliable for the veracity of on-set spoilers, even as Coster-Waldau has been one to speak his mind before. Recent HBO reports suggested Game of Thrones might film different endings to preserve secrecy for the very final moments, though the once and future Jaime Lannister questioned to Marie Claire whether production would be willing to spend that kind of scratch:
Do you think that’s true? It seems really stupid to me. I mean if it’s true I don’t believe it, but I don’t know, maybe. I mean, I haven’t read the script, so unless they will show several endings that could be a twist, they’re not going to waste that money. They know how expensive it is to shoot. You’re not going to waste $100,000 a day to shoot something you’re not going to use. It’s not going to happen.
For what it’s worth, Kit Harington claimed of Season 7 that several shots were staged to throw off prying eyes, though discerning minds like Watchers on the Wall were quick to see through any ruse. Coster-Waldau might just as easily mean to sow confusion, though it’s worth noting the final season’s reported $15 million-an-episode budget could easily accommodate a little subterfuge.
We’ll have stronger sense of the final season when production begins in October, but how might Game of Thrones Season 8 ultimately end?
