‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Rounds Out the Team With Gamora’s Backstory
Whether or not James Gunn disputes their canonicity with the films, Disney XD’s Guardians of the Galaxy shorts already have us aboard the new series by filling in gaps the MCU may never get around to. Rounding out the ranks of our beloved criminal super-team is none other than Gamora, and her deadly rivalries with both Nebula and Korath.
Bringing Korath in as a “brother” counterpart to Thanos’ “children” Nebula and Gamora, the latest Guardians of the Galaxy animated short fleshes out the rivalry between the trio, as well the events that seemingly started to turn Gamora away from her murderous family. As the last short before Guardians of the Galaxy sneaks a peek at its premiere this coming Saturday, the dual clips also set up Peter Quinn and Yondu’s involvement with the main story.
Premiering through August and September, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy features Will Friedle as Star-Lord, David Sobolov as Drax, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot and Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, and James Arnold Taylor as both Yondu and Cosmo. So reads the full synopsis:
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.
