We were lucky enough that ABC opted to renew Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for Season 5, so it isn’t any surprise that the network might try something new this fall. What is surprising, however, is that ABC isn’t giving Marvel’s The Inhumans a prime timeslot, but instead placing both on Friday.

ABC put out its official fall 2017 schedule, curiously burying The Inhumans in a Friday at 9:00 P.M. timeslot. The series will still run in IMAX theaters for two weeks, though it’s not exactly an optimistic timeslot for the Marvel drama, which itself garnered mixed reception by its first photos. Here’s the confirmed synopsis:

Marvel’s Inhumans explores the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

The absence of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from the schedule was notable, though ABC confirms Season 5 will air in the same timeslot once Inhumans finishes its eight-episode run. Executives also stated that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 will have a full 22-episode order, though no word on whether ABC intends it as the last.

We’ll hear more details on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Inhumans as ABC delivers its Upfront presentation, but is the network’s future looking a little less Marvel-ous than we’d hope?
