Netflix’s Marco Polo made relatively few waves for such a gorgeous and expensive production, but will Season 2 fare any better? If nothing else, action among the Mongol empire appears significantly upped in the first trailer for Season 2, along with a stylish new poster.

Ahead of its July 1 premiere, Netflix released the first official trailer for the second season of its epic historical drama, along with a new poster. Given a “war within” breaking out amongst the empire, the full description reads thusly:

In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, Marco Polo is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th Century China, and the dark and tempestuous battle for the expanding Mongol empire.
