If ever we thought Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2 had been kept under wraps, forthcoming prequel one-shot adaptation 'Agent Carter' has seemed even more classified. Now, with production gearing up for a winter premiere, 'Agent Carter' has booked one new, and one familiar face to the Whedon and Marvel universes alike, adding Chad Michael Murray and 'Dollhouse' star Enver Gjokaj as its first new cast members.

Per Marvel, Murray will take the role of Agent Jack Thompson, while 'Dollhouse' fan-favorite Gjokaj will play Agent Daniel Sousa, both of whom meet Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as she takes on a new role at S.H.I.E.L.D.-precursor the Strategic Scientific Reserve in New York City. And if anything seems a bit familiar about 'Agent Carter''s newest stars, eagle-eyed fans will remember that Gjokaj actually held a small role in Marvel's 'The Avengers' as a New York City police officer fighting off the Chitauri invasion. Coincidence? We think not!

The castings also seemingly confirms an earlier leak of 'Agent Carter''s core characters, which describe Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa thusly:

Agent Jack Thompson is in his 30s, handsome and damn well knows it. The polar opposite of Dooley, he doesn’t take kindly to women in the workplace, nor how little recognition he gets. Worse, he wants Dooley’s job and is desperate to prove himself.

Daniel Sousa is everything Jack Thompson wants to be. He’s a war hero who walks using a leg brace, but finds dealing with office politics to be harder than working around his injury. Sousa is also a fiercely honourable, gentle man and we’re betting he becomes one of Peggy’s major allies.

Premiering with 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.''s season 2 winter hiatus, the ‘Agent Carter’ series will be executive produced by ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ writers Christopher Markus and Steve McFeely, who also wrote the pilot, along with ‘Reaper’ creators/showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Marvel Studios film producers Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jeph Loeb will also act as producers.

Its pilot to be directed by one-shot helmer Louis D'Esposito, with 'The Winter Soldier''s  Russo brothers helming the second and third episodes, and 'Captain America''s Joe Johnston likely the fourth, here’s how Marvel describes ‘Agent Carter’:

Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter,’ starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ along with the short ‘Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.’

It could be a while yet before we learn anything major of 'Agent Carter,' particularly if Dominic Cooper will reprise his role as Howard Stark, or if any major Marvel names will pop up over the course of the eight-episode season, but what say you? Are Chad Michael Murry and Enver Gjokaj a good start for the new series about Cap's best gal? Might either be the war-hero husband we heard Peggy mentioning in 'The Winter Soldier?' Stay tuned for the latest, and tell us what you want to see from Marvel's 'Agent Carter' in the comments!
