During Comic-Con Wesley Snipes revealed that he’d had some discussions with Marvel about reviving the Blade franchise now that the rights have reverted back to the studio. It wasn’t long after that a rumor popped up involving a delay in the release of Marvel’s new comic centered on Blade’s daughter, suggesting that Marvel Studios might be working on a project involving that character. And now the Blade rumors continue to flow as Snipes is once again talking about meeting with Marvel, making things seem more optimistic for his return than ever before.

During an interview with Huffington Post, Snipes responded to an inquiry about the status of a new Blade project over at Marvel. The actor reiterated that he’s had talks with the studio, and added that they “see value” in a new Blade movie:

There’s always a possibility, you know. It’s in Marvel’s hands. They’re controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it. I’m still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to it yet.

When asked how he would feel about Blade appearing alongside the Avengers in the MCU, Snipes said:

That would be interesting. I mean, I know it’s in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in. He’s got to bite somebody. I don’t know who he’s going to bite.

Blade teaming up with the Avengers in the MCU seems very unlikely — if Marvel does develop a new Blade film, it’s likely that it would be more of a standalone property with smaller connections to the larger MCU. The only thing tying Guardians of the Galaxy to the rest of the MCU, for instance, is Thanos, and director James Gunn has expressed repeatedly that there are currently no plans for the Guardians to crossover with the Avengers in a future film.

Blade could function in a similar manner, and there is still always the possibility that Marvel is working on a project that would see the Daywalker passing his skills along to his daughter.

Marvel has made nothing official for now, but a new Blade film is fun to think about.
