FOX’s untimely cancellation of The Mindy Project came as little surprise to numbers folk, though Kaling herself seemed coolly confident the romcom-skewering series would live on. Hulu officially shares that confidence today, renewing the drama for an extended fourth season.

According to Hulu’s official press release, The Mindy Project Season 4 will premiere the first of 26 new episodes on the streaming site at a future date. Odds of Hulu picking up the critically-revered FOX comedy were already high, considering how much of the existing catalog was already hosted by the streaming service.

Says Hulu of the deal, which brings The Mindy Project within syndication sale numbers:

Mindy has been a beloved member of the Hulu family, so this deal is a natural extension of our relationship. With so many of her fans already catching up and tuning in to the series on Hulu, we know her millions of fans will be eager to find out what Mindy has in store for the next chapter.

Apart from its below-threshold ratings, The Mindy Project caused headaches for FOX in originating with Universal TV, at a time when most networks have begun consolidating their series with in-house studios. Hulu has yet to set a date for The Mindy Project Season 4, and may yet order additional seasons, as had originally been discussed with the cancellation last week.

Certainly a fine time to be a fan, but should anything about The Mindy Project change in moving to Hulu for Season 4?
