Russo Brothers (Accidentally) Confirm Captain Marvel for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
It’s safe to assume that Captain Marvel will probably make her big screen debut in another Marvel movie before her standalone adventure — but which one? And when? The superhero’s solo outing doesn’t hit theaters until 2019, and it seems unlikely that Marvel would introduce her this year or next, as it would still be a bit too soon for the studio’s other Captain to arrive on the scene. Great news: we can officially stop wondering, as the Russo brothers have apparently given us an answer.
During an event at the Smithsonian Institute (via ComicBook.com), the directors of Captain America: Civil War briefly touched on their upcoming Avengers sequel. While discussing the two-part Infinity War, they casually mentioned Captain Marvel’s name and, as you can imagine, someone in the audience was very quick to ask if they had just officially confirmed the character’s involvement — to which they replied, “Um…Captain Barvel. Totally different character.” Sure, sure. Whatever you say.
But that would make sense, given that Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man both made their MCU debuts in Civil War. And Infinity War will have a little more room to introduce new characters, since the Avengers sequel is split into two parts. The Russos also recently revealed that they’ll be changing the title of both halves of the film to better distinguish between the separate-but-connected nature of the two.
As it stands, Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019, sandwiched between both parts of the temporarily-titled Infinity War. Part 1 arrives on May 4, 2018, followed by Part 2 on May 3, 2019.
