Sense8 was easily Netflix’s harshest cancellation to date; not from a financial standpoint, but for cutting the story short (and on the first day of Pride, at that). No more, as Lana Wachowski confirms fans have succeeded in resurrecting Sense8 for a new special in 2018!

Practically book-ending the month that saw its cancellation, Sense8’s return was announced by Wachowski herself over social media with a heartfelt letter. In it, she acknowledges the difficulty of coming to grips with the first cancellation, before cementing “there will be another two hour special released next year.”:

And while the post itself states “finale,” Wachowski herself notes in the letter “After that … if this experience has taught me anything, you NEVER know.” Netflix has not made any additional details of the two-hour special public, though we at least know cast contracts were previously extended until June to work out some kind of future.

Netflix has certainly demonstrated their new cancellation standards in recent weeks, though a $9 million-per-episode price tag for Sense8 was an admittedly tall order. Either way, fans quickly rushed forth with an outpouring of support, petitions and goodwill, given all the representation on display.

Stay tuned for the latest, and congrats in the meantime, Sense8 fans!
