‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Mockingbird Spinoff ‘Most Wanted’ Lands ABC Pilot Order
A few months back, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans were surprised to learn Marvel and ABC intended to develop a spinoff around Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter, ostensibly two of the strongest additions to the main series. That project was quickly shelved, but will apparently fly again with a pilot order for Marvel’s Most Wanted on ABC.
According to Variety, ABC has granted an official pilot order to the series, though no decision has been made as to how, or when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would introduce the episode, if at all. Cryptically, the report also specifies that Marvel’s Most Wanted “is not a spinoff, per se, but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story.”
So … like a spinoff? [scratches head]
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. EP Jeffrey Bell and series writer Paul Zbyszewski will once again spearhead the project, both serving as showrunners and executive producers, as was expected previously. For the moment, it remains unclear what changed ABC’s mind on the project, or if John Ridley’s secret MCU project has made any progress.
Premiering September 29, we know of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 that Henry Simmons (Mack) and Luke Mitchell (Lincoln) have both been upgraded to series regular. In addition to Constance Zimmer’s arrival as a new foil for Coulson, the series will presumably also help build up to Captain America: Civil War, while installing its own version of Marvel’s Secret Warriors.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 will premiere in September, but does another series for Mockingbird and Hunter make any more sense now, than previously? What should we hope, or expect for Marvel’s Most Wanted?
