Adventure. Excitement. A Jedi craves not these things.

What they really like are game shows.

StarWars.com brings word that one of the next Star Wars projects coming to the Disney+ streaming service will be a Star Wars game show. Called Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge, the show is “set in a galaxy far, far away” and will...

...test young contestants’ abilities in the core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge, and bravery as they face thrilling and fun obstacles in an attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight! From lightsabers to hyperspace, the Force, and the dark side, Jedi Temple Challenge transports viewers and contestants into the Star Wars galaxy like never before.

Jedi Temple Challenge is hosted by Ahmed Best, who is best known (sorry) to Star Wars fans as the man who performed and voiced Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars Prequels. He is not playing Jar Jar on this show however; he will apparently play the role of “Jedi Master and mentor” to the contestants. There will also be a “a hilarious humanoid droid companion,” voiced by Veep’s Mary Holland. The idea, it would seem, is that rather than acknowledge the game-show-ness of it all, the host and sidekick will be “in character” as they guide the contestants through the show’s various challenges (set on “a forest planet, on board a Jedi star cruiser, and inside a Jedi temple”). I imagine their advice will be a lot of “Do or do not. There is no try,” type stuff.

So basically it sounds like a Star Wars-y version of Nickelodeon’s beloved game show GUTS, with maybe a dash of Legends of the Hidden Temple sprinkled in for ambiance. Sounds like something I would have loved as a kid. Jedi Temple Challenge will stream on Disney+ in 2020.
