‘The Get Down’ Hits the Major League With April ‘Part II’ Premiere Teaser
Netflix’s Baz Luhrmann-helmed The Get Down proved one of the first notable examples of streaming series breaking up their episode runs, but at long last, Part II is headed to the stage. Wave goodbye to your social life in April, as The Get Down announces its return in a first teaser.
The underrated ‘70s hip-hop drama will return for the second half of its first season on Friday, April 7, with a first teaser highlighting Mylene and The Get Down Brothers as their fame rises. Don’t take our word for it, though, when we have this fresh synopsis:
Part Two picks up a year after the midseason finale in 1978 and finds young lovers Zeke (Justice Smith) and Mylene (Herizen Guardiola) caught in the middle of a cultural revolution as hip-hop’s ascendancy continues, thereby challenging disco music’s reign. Books and Mylene will depend on each other as they continue to pursue their dreams against a fraught backdrop that includes a bankrupt New York City, ruthless gangsters, and money-hungry record label bosses.
For those unfamiliar, The Get Down features among its cast Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Jaden Smith, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Browne, Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Kevin Corrigan, Jimmy Smits and Breaking Bad alum Giancarlo Esposito.
Stay tuned for further news of The Get Down Part II, as well as any potential second season.
