Fans of Julia Louis-Dreyfus want the Emmy-winning actress in good health, and Veep isn’t taking any chances. The HBO comedy will officially postpone filming on the seventh and final season until Louis-Dreyfus has had time to recover from chemotherapy for her breast cancer, thereby placing a premiere in 2019.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed as much with star Matt Walsh, who specified “We’ll start filming in August and it will air in 2019. We’ve known for about a month. We’ve seen [Julia], she’s done some table reads, she’s doing well, she’s finished her last chemo, she’s in recuperation.” Louis-Dreyfus first announced her breast cancer diagnosis over Twitter in September of last year, and executive producer Frank Rich confirmed in November that production would go on hiatus to accommodate her treatment.

HBO had previously noted that its star’s health scare had nothing to do with the network’s overall decision to end Veep with a seventh and final season. Prior to that, it was known that Veep Season 7 likely wouldn’t premiere in time for the 2018 Emmy cutoff, thereby denying Louis-Dreyfus the opportunity to win a seventh straight Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. At the very least, HBO will have a banner 2019 ending both Game of Thrones and Veep in one fell swoop.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has since completed chemotherapy treatments, so here’s to better health and a final campaign with Selina Meyer in 2019.
