Hulu’s comedy slate was already undergoing changes, but the latest is … well, Difficult to grasp. Billy and Julie apparently won’t return for Season 4, as Hulu confirms fan-favorite Difficult People has been canceled after three years.

No explicit reason was given for the cancellation, which follows the Season 3 finale in September. Difficult People was originally developed for USA in 2014, but soon emerged as one of Hulu’s buzziest original comedies. Star Billy Eichner addressed the series’ end over Twitter, seemingly absent any hope that Difficult People might find a new home on another network:

Hulu’s comedy slate will look very different by next year, as Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project wraps up its sixth and final season this week, while dating dramedy Casual was renewed for a fourth and final season. Eichner’s TV career has undergone some turnover as well, as the comedian’s trademark Billy on the Street left TruTV in September, of which Eichner said “We are transitioning, and it is going to evolve as it always has.”

In addition to Eichner, the Amy Poehler-produced series starred creator Julie Klausner, Venture voice James Urbaniak, Andrea Martin, Cole Escola, Shakina Nayfack, Derrick Baskin, Gabourey Sidibe and more. All three seasons of Difficult People are available to watch on Hulu in the meantime.
