Game of Thrones historically acknowledges precious little of any season’s castings in advance, save for overwhelming observation of an eagerly-awaited role. Now, another famous UK face has joined Season 6 , that of the omnipresent Richard E. Grant, but who might he be playing?

We’ll take a moment to acknowledge that like Max von Sydow, Grant has any number of identifiable credits to his name, from Girls to Downton Abbey to Spice World and everything in between, though Watchers on the Wall observed that Game of Thrones recently appeared on the actor’s official agency credits. No word yet on who Grant might be playing, but given the ubiquity of recognizable book roles yet to be cast, from Sam’s father Randyll Tarly, to Aeron Greyjoy, Septon Meribald, Lord Karstark, or Smalljon Umber, among numerous others, anything is possible.

Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 6, screen legend Max von Sydow has been cast as the mysterious Three-Eyed Raven to a returning Bran, while Deadwood alum Ian McShane will also appear in a limited, mysterious role, and Borgen star Pilou Asbæk will play fan-favorite Euron Greyjoy. Apart from a list of directors, debate continually rages as to whether Kit Harington’s Jon Snow will participate in Season 6, even as Harington can clearly be seen in Belfast, and story logistics seemingly confirm scenes set at The Wall next year.

We may yet have an additional two seasons beyond the sixth year to pad out George R.R. Martin’s story, but what else can we infer of future Game of Thrones from the casting of Richard E. Grant?
