‘Iron Fist’ Star Jessica Henwick Back for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7
The writing for Loras was pretty much on the wall when Game of Thrones star Finn Jones booked the lead in Marvel’s Iron Fist, but less certain was the fate of fellow HBO player Jessica Henwick. No one would necessarily begrudge time away from the Sand Snakes, but Henwick now confirms Nymeria Sand will be back for Season 7 … briefly.
You’re warned of possible Game of Thrones Season 7 spoilers from here on out, but suffice to say, the HBO fantasy-drama is no stranger to recasting minor roles. Henwick booking the role of Colleen Wing for Iron Fist and The Defenders made it likely her Sand Snake role as Nymeria would either vanish in Season 7, or end up with a new actress in the role.
Not so, according to Entertainment Weekly, as Henwick shares that she was able to break away from the New York Iron Fist set to keep both gigs:
I wasn’t able to do it [at first]. My schedule clashed. I was filming Iron Fist for six-to-seven months and they wouldn’t give me the time off. [GoT] was so massive for me in terms of my career and building my profile and as an experience in itself, I wanted to return. [A GoT producer explained] ‘it’s really important that you come back otherwise your character will just disappear.’ So I spoke to Marvel and I managed to get a release. I literally was flying back and forth while I was doing Iron Fist in New York to Belfast, even during Christmas break.
Henwick also jokingly referenced the likewise disappearance of Joe Dempsie’s Gendry (cough, cough), but acknowledged “We pick up right where we left off and get into the nitty gritty very quickly.” Said nits and grits saw the Sand Snakes aligned with the Tyrells and Daenerys Targaryen, but … well, let’s just say the trailers didn’t show things going so well on the high seas. The rest is at your peril.
However briefly Henwick returns to Game of Thrones, we’ll at least see her in The Defenders in August, so stay tuned for the latest on either.
