Watch ‘Heroes Reborn’ Digital Prequel ‘Dark Matters’ Right Now
This past weekend, NBC’s Heroes Reborn gave fans at Comic-Con 2015 a taste of what to expect from the fall revival, including the first look at digital prequel Dark Matters, filling in the five-year gap and fleshing out changes to the show’s universe key to Reborn. Now, the first full episode of Dark Matters has made its way online, including a few easter eggs and surprise returns.
Available as a digital app, the first installment of Dark Matters sees a mysterious figure interrupting broadcast to exposit the fate of “EVO”s since Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) first exposed their abilities to the world in Season 4's finale. The webisode next moves into a young girl named Phoebe (Aislinn Paul) showing off her own abilities, before a full trailer teases the story to come.
So reads NBC’s Heroes synopsis for Dark Matters:
The digital prequel HEROES REBORN: DARK MATTERS bridges the gap between the original series and HEROES REBORN, reintroducing viewers to the HEROES universe and unveiling a whole new generation of Heroes.
It’s been five years since the public became aware of the existence of evolved humans or “EVOs” who possess incredible, supernatural abilities. In that time, the public has grown to either fear or revere EVOs. An online community forms around the rallying cry of the anonymous Hero_Truther, who seeks to humanize EVOs in the wake of lies, slander and fearmongering.
Among those posting their personal stories is Phoebe Frady (Aislinn Paul), who is encouraged to document her origin story by her brother, Quentin (Henry Zebrowski). But as Phoebe struggles to control her power, she attracts unwanted attention from a mysterious new company.
If Henry Zebrowski rings any bells, you might want to check the full Heroes Reborn synopsis:
A year ago, a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, left the city decimated. Blamed for the tragic event, those with extraordinary abilities are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives.
Noah Bennet, aka HRG (Jack Coleman, reprising his role from the original), has gone off the grid but conspiracy theorist Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski, A to Z) finds him and opens his eyes to the truth behind the Odessa tragedy.
While in hiding, some are discovering their newfound skills. Awkward teen Tommy (Robbie Kay, Once Upon a Time) just wants to be normal and win the girl of his dreams, Emily (Gatlin Green, Criminal Minds), but normalcy is virtually impossible after learning of a new ability that terrifies him. Coming from a very sheltered upbringing, a bold and ethereal teenager, Malina (Danika Yarosh, Shameless), has been told she is destined for greatness. In Tokyo, a quiet and unique young woman, Miko (Kiki Sukezane, Death Yankee 3), is trying to track down her missing father while hiding an extraordinary secret that will make her a force to be reckoned with. Elsewhere, a different type of hero is emerging through former soldier Carlos (Ryan Guzman, The Boy Next Door).
Meanwhile, Erica (Rya Kihlstedt, Masters of Sex), the head of the highly successful tech conglomerate Renautas, has an agenda of her own.
For better or for worse, some are fated to cross paths with assorted heroes of the past, including Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), among others. Yet, together, their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world and mankind.
Heroes Reborn will premiere on September 24 but check out the first installment of Dark Matters above, stay tuned for the video game prequels, and take a look at both trailers below.
