If major 'Star Wars' characters are getting their own standalone movies, why not the Hulk?

This has been a major point of speculation in the Marvel fan universe as of late with rumors of solo 'Huk' films featuring the 'Planet Hulk' and 'World War Hulk' storylines, though they were soon shot down by both Joss Whedon and Marvel. Still, many of us are secretly hoping that our favorite big green guy will get the same screen time as Captain America and Iron Man, but will it actually happen? Here's the latest on this from Mark Ruffalo...

Iron Man 3' and '
Thor 2: The Dark World' in the next few months, and '
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier' next year, we've all been wondering if The Incredible Hulk will ever get a standalone movie. In response to our growing need for answers, the man who portrays the Hulk, Mark Ruffalo, gave some updates via Twitter:

But, according to Ruffalo, that doesn't mean we won't see one at all in the future.

Latino-Review's intrepid El Mayimbe broke a story a while ago, reporting that the Hulk storyline will incorporate the 'Planet Hulk' and 'World War Hulk' comic books in future films (click here for the specific plot details). Though this report was shot down shortly after by a dueling Marvel scoop, and Joss Whedon thought it was complete nonsense. Still, considering Marvel's desire to throw people off their trail, this latest update from Ruffalo sort of gives these initial rumors more ground on which to stand.

What do you think? Will we ever see a standalone 'Hulk' movie? Do you think the 'Planet Hulk'/'World War Hulk' reports have any merit? Give us your theories in the comments.
