The recent run of casting for Marvel’s ‘AKA Jessica Jones’ Netflix series brought with it news that ‘Luke Cage’ would first appear in a majorly supporting role, before graduating to his own ‘Defenders’ lead-in series. Now, Marvel has officially confirmed actor Mike Colter will don the yellow shirt and gauntlets as street-level hero-for-hire ‘Luke Cage.’

Having run the rumor mill over the years through everyone from Terry Crews to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to ‘Psych’'s Dule Hill, Marvel’s Netflix ‘Luke Cage’ has officially found its man. Along with confirmation of ‘Halo: Nightfall’ star Colter’s casting, Marvel’s announcement also provides a few details as to how the strongman character will cross paths with Krysten Ritter’s ‘Jessica Jones’:

During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.

Says Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb of the announcement:

Fans have longed to see Luke Cage brought and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.

For those unfamiliar with the new series, ‘Jessica Jones’ emerged in ‘Alias’ comics as a superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, leading her to hang up the costume and opening a detective agency, wherein she helps both super and human clients. The character has also frequently been seen to share a romantic relationship with Cage, who himself will appear in 6-7 episodes before headlining the fourth and final ‘Defenders’ lead-in series.

For the moment at least, ‘Jessica Jones’ has only writer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg locked in, with no word yet on any ‘Iron Fist’ casting choices. We’ve barely scratched the ‘Defenders’ surface as Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ hits the streets in mid 2015, but what say you?
