‘The Flash’ Casts ‘Spartacus’ Star Liam McIntyre as Weather Wizard 2.0

The Bringer of Rain lives! Where casting ‘Spartacus’ alum in notable DC roles has typically proven ‘Arrow’’s game, ‘The Flash’ seems to have stolen a bit of thunder in landing the man himself. Liam McIntyre has officially been tapped to bring the rain anew as ‘The Flash’'s second incarnation of DC’s Weather Wizard in an upcoming episode.

ComicBook.com officially confirmed the ‘Spartacus’ star to take up the role of Clyde Mardon’s brother Mark, though photos of the actor arriving in Vancouver had previously tipped off fans to the role. Viewers of the CW series will remember that where bank-robber Clyde awoke from a particle accelerator-caused plane crash in the pilot to find himself capable of controlling the weather, Mark’s similarly surprising survival will come to light in episodes 15 and 16.

Worse than that, it seems Mark will seek to utilize his own weather-controlling powers against the man who killed his brother, one Detective Joe West. Of course, it should also be noted that McIntyre marks the second Mardon brother whose body was apparently never recovered from the initial crash site, despite Joe’s blind insistence the pair had died in the accident. Just sayin’.

Considering the unanimously blah reaction to ‘The Flash’'s first undercooked attempt at Weather Wizard, we might have hoped The CW’s DC-verse to reserve McIntyre for a meatier role to rival the likes of Manu Bennett’s Deathstroke, Cynthia Addai-Robinson’s Amanda Waller, Katrina Law’s Nyssa al Ghul, or even Nick Tarabay’s Captain Boomerang. Still, a cool casting is its own reward, we suppose.

While Barry continues to track down “The Man in the Yellow Suit,” the DC drama’s 2015 return will also see ‘Prison Break’ alum Dominic Purcell debuting as Heat Wave alongside former co-star Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold. Additional weeks will see ‘Smash’ star Andy Mientus debuting as DC’s Pied Piper, ‘Tomorrow People’ star Peyton List portraying Captain Cold’s sister, and even the original Trickster, Mark Hamill himself reprising his role for a new generation (wouldn’t be the first time).
