The first season finale of Westworld saw one Host declining to leave the park, though fans were quick to note another seemingly on its way to the outside world. Now, producers clarify said mystery man remains in the park, which might explain some recent casting.

You’re warned of full spoilers for Westworld Season 1 from here on out, but we never did learn exactly what became of Peter Abernathy (Louis Herthum) after being reprogrammed with enough stolen data and personality to leave the confines of the park. The point was moot when Hosts began rising up, leaving some uncertain if Herthum’s Season 2 regular role would take us outside Westworld.

Not so (at least yet), according to executive producer Jonah Nolan, who clarified to Entertainment Weekly that Abernathy didn’t succeed in leaving:

I don’t think Abernathy got on that train; I don’t think any host got on that train — or any host that we’re aware of. When you see Lee head down to cold storage, he’s going there to retrieve Abernathy, and Abernathy is gone, so leave it up to your imagination.

Elsewhere of Westworld Season 2, producers have kept the lion’s share of details under wraps, though the 2018 “Journey Into Night” is expected to answer practical questions about the park, potentially even a date for the show’s setting. Ed Harris will be back to play Season 2 on extreme mode (no guarantee for William), while Talulah Riley has also been upped to series regular. We’ll also finally get answers on the mysterious “SW” park, and hopefully learn what became of poor Elsie and Stubbs.

We’ll see what other Westworld Season 2 details shake out at Comic-Con, so stay tuned for the latest.
