Marvel’s Agent Carter has made no secret of Peggy’s big trip to L.A., both literally and figuratively moving on from Captain America, but what new trouble will our beloved Agent face out west? The newest big bad for Agent Carter Season 2 has arrived, as Peggy faces Marvel’s Madame Masque.

Slashfilm had the opportunity to speak with Agent Carter executive producers Tara Butters and Chris Dingess, during which the two revealed that a modified Madame Masque would factor in as Peggy’s major villain next season. Typically portrayed as an Iron Man villain with a scarred visage and ties to the Maggia crime organization, Madame Masque will undergo a few ‘40s modifications, as with Doctor Faustus last season:

Tara: Here’s the thing. It’s a little hard. In the comic books, a lot of the Marvel period, there are issue rights. Our villain from the season is very much a Marvel villain that we co-opted a little bit like we did Dr. Fennhoff in the first season.

Chris: It’s a ‘40s version of that villain.

So you’ve adapted her back in time.

Tara: We’ve co-opted her.

Chris: We put our spin on her.

What was modern about Madame Masque that just wouldn’t work in the ‘40s?

Tara: I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We’ve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a ‘40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that’s part of what we’re mining with this character.

The duo also added that the role has indeed been cast, though no announcements have yet arrived. In addition to discussing logistical reasons for the move to Los Angeles, Butters and Dingess also revealed that while much of the cast would move forward in a new SSR branch out west, Peggy’s gal-pal Angie (Lyndsy Fonseca) has not yet signed on as a series regular.

Expanded to 10 episodes and likely to return in January 2016, so reads the full synopsis of Agent Carter’s next mission:

Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home – and perhaps even a new love – she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

Elsewhere of Agent Carter Season 2, Hayley Atwell previously teased we’d likely see more of Peggy’s lighter side, having let go of Steve Rogers in Season 1. Thus far, James D’Arcy and Enver Gjokaj have been confirmed to return as Jarvis and Daniel Sousa, while Dominic Cooper’s Howard Stark and Chad Michael Murray’s Jack Thompson have also been suggested. Other reports also claim that the Marvel-ous period drama will be casting an intelligent Hollywood starlet (likely Masque) married to a powerful CEO, along with “charming oddball” Dr. Henry, a scientist who doesn’t take himself too seriously.

We’ll have more on Marvel’s Agent Carter to come, but what should we make of Peggy’s next big bad?
