Earlier today, Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim stoked the fires (will?) of a Green Lantern appearance in Season 4 by insinuating a certain ring might pop up in the premiere, but the latest trailer might debunk said tease. The latest look at Arrow Season 4 definitely highlights a ring, but it sure ain’t the Lantern Corps’.

Keep some Arrow Season 4 and Olicity spoilers in mind from here on out, but where last night saw the release of a new spot teasing Damien Darhk’s seemingly magical abilities, the full CW promo puts a decidedly different spin on the Oliver-Felicity happiness of late. That season premiere ring producer Marc Guggenheim alluded to may in fact be intended for Felicity, and unlikely to sprout any green energy constructs:

Now, the suggestion of Oliver proposing to Felicity doesn’t necessarily cancel out other direct Green Lantern references, but consider executive producer Marc Guggenheim’s earlier tease of the premiere:

There is a nod or two [in Coast City]. There is a billboard that people will get a kick out of, and there may or may not be a ring in the season premiere.

The billboard in question inescapably references Green Lantern by placing a portion of the famous oath on a Coast City tourism ad (albeit in  a way that makes little sense, with or without an in-universe Green Lantern), so Guggenheim’s juxtaposition of a ring tease seems a bit cruel in retrospect, applied to Oliver’s engagement ring. The billboard crossed a certain line from Arrow’s usually playful references to DC mythology, so why continue on with such intentional deception now?

In addition to its Constantine crossover, we know of Arrow Season 4 that the fourth year is expected to somewhat creatively revamp the series after its Season 3 finale saw Oliver retiring the vigilante lifestyle. In addition to a focusing on DC villains H.I.V.E. and Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Season 4 will also introduce Rutina Wesley, Parker Young, Jeri Ryan’s Jessica Danforth, J.R. Bourne’s Double Down, Echo Kellum’s Mr. Terrific, Alexander Calvert’s Anarky, and White Canary before her Legends of Tomorrow role.

Apart from Wendy Mericle’s elevation to co-showrunner alongside Marc Guggenheim, we also know that Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander will helm an episode, and both Oliver and Diggle will sport new looks.

Arrow Season 4 will premiere on October 7, but check out the trailers below, and stand by for the latest!
