American Horror Story franchise vet Lily Rabe was among the last confirmed to return for Hotel, and wasn’t fully identified by the TCA panel’s recent rundown. Now, we’ve learned that not only will Rabe appear in the traditional two-part Horror Story Halloween arc, but she’ll do so as famed Monster killer Aileen Wuornos.

As reported by the L.A. Times, series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that Rabe would play the famous killer of seven men, who herself was notably earlier played by Charlize Theron in the 2003 film Monster, following the real criminal’s 2002 execution. Whether or not the appearance identifies anything about the Hotel timeline (Wuornos was also prominently based out of Florida, not L.A.), here’s what Murphy had to say:

We’re doing a two-part, well, we always do a two-part Halloween episode, but our Halloween episode this year is called ‘Devil’s Night.’ I’m directing it because I love the script so much, when we finished it I said, ‘I can’t give this to anybody else.’ Lily Rabe is coming to that episode. And she’s playing Aileen Wuornos, which is really fun and bizarre. I don’t want to give too much away but I will tell you that she’s at the centerpiece of that, and that’s who she’s playing.

Elsewhere, the Hotel cast thus far includes Max Greenfield, Cheyenne Jackson and Lady Gaga, returning Coven alum Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Asylum star Chloe Sevigny, Freak Show guests Finn Wittrock, Matt Bomer and Wes Bentley, and franchise regulars, Denis O’Hare, Evan Peters and Sara Paulson. FX boss John Landgraf described American Horror Story Season 5 as an “unusually large reinvention” of the series, while Jessica Lange confirmed her exit, but remains open to appearances in future seasons.
