HBO's 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Eastbound & Down' seasons always manage to ease the long journey from 'Game of Thrones' and 'True Blood' each year, but the pay cable network is going all-out this January. Not only will 'Girls' premiere season 3 in January with a double dose of Hannah Horvath, but so too will moody A-list crime drama 'True Detective' and buzzing Jonathan Groff dramedy 'Looking.'

January 12 will see the  Woody Harrelson-Matthew McConaughey starring 'True Detective' premiere at 9:00 P.M., immediately followed at 10 with the 'Girls' season 3 premiere, and an additional all-new 'Girls' to compliment the expanded order to 12 episodes. The following week will see the San Francisco-set 'Looking' take over the 9:30 P.M. slot, likely fitting in well to complement Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshannah.

Meanwhile, we know of ‘Girls’ season 3 from casting calls that a character would somehow end up in rehabJon Hamm‘s wife Jennifer Westfeldt has been observed filming on the set, while Michael Zegen (‘Boardwalk Empire‘) has been announced in an unknown role, along with ‘Orange is the New Black‘ star Danielle Brooks. Other guest stars include ‘Doctor Who‘ star Richard E. Grant, ‘Crystal Fairy’ star Gabby Hoffmann, ‘The To Do List‘ star Sarah Steele and ‘Zero Hour‘ star Amir Arison.

‘True Detective’ follows investigators Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives intertwine during a 17-year hunt for a Louisiana serial killer. Their investigation of a gruesome 1995 murder cuts through testimony from the detectives in 2012, after the case re-opens. The eight-episode series also stars Kevin Dunn (‘Veep‘), Michelle Monaghan (‘Open‘), Alexandra Daddario (‘Percy Jackson‘) and Elizabeth Reaser (‘Twilight‘).

And finally, 'Looking' follows three San Francisco friends who explore the "fun and sometimes overwhelming options available to a new generation of gay men," and stars 'Glee''s Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett. Early guest stars include Russell Tovey ('Sherlock') and Scott Bakula ('Behind the Candelabra,' 'Star Trek: Enterprise').
