Even though we finally saw Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' pilot in all its glory at Comic-Con 2013, we've been anxiously awaiting news from the episodes beyond. Now, our first taste of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' as an ongoing series has arrived as the Joss Whedon-produced series adds former 'Ghost Whisperer' star David Conrad in a mysterious new role. So, what Marvel character will we be speculating about now?

News of Conrad's casting arrives via TVLine, though in typical 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' fashion, ABC producers are keeping mum on Conrad's recurring character. At the very least, TVLine notes that the 'Avengers'-adjacent series had recently been casting a "brilliant and quirky" scientist role for a 40s male, potentially matching David Conrad's description.

While we wait for the September 24 premiere, Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ features a cast that includes Clark Gregg’s resurrected Agent Phil Coulson,  Whedon vet J. August Richards, Ming-Na as veteran agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as hacker Skye, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, and Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker as science team Gemma Simmons and Leo Fitz. Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jacksonpreviously stated that he expected to be involved with the show in some small capacity, while ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ star Cobie Smulders was recently confirmed to reprise her ‘Avengers‘ role as Agent Maria Hill and Sam Rockwell is game to reprise his ‘Iron Man’ role of Justin Hammer, by his own word.

You can check out Marvel's official trailer for 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' below, and hit us up in the comments with your theories on David Conrad's mysterious new role! Are we seeing another Marvel superhero brought to life right under our noses?
